Privacy Policy
Essence Quebec / Gas Quebec is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under Quebec's Law 25 and Canada's PIPEDA.
What we collect
Without an account, we do not collect any personal information. We do collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and performance. These are retained for a maximum of 30 days.
When you create a free account, we collect:
- Your email address, used to send you a sign-in link
- A display name, if you choose to set one (optional)
- Your language preference (French or English)
- Your saved preferences: preferred city, preferred region, preferred fuel type, tank size, and fuel efficiency, if you enter them
- Your favourite stations, stored as a list of station identifiers
- Whether you have opted in to our newsletter
We do not store passwords. Sign-in is done via a one-time link sent to your email.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- Send you a sign-in link when you log in
- Personalize your dashboard based on your saved preferences
- Send newsletter updates if you have opted in
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing.
Analytics and session recording
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used in aggregate. GA4 is configured with IP anonymization, Google Signals disabled, and ad personalization disabled, so no personal data is collected or sent to Google.
With your consent, we use Sentry Session Replay to record anonymized sessions to help diagnose errors. All text and media are masked before recording.
Withdrawing your consent
You can withdraw your session recording consent at any time by clicking the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer.
Data retention
If you delete your account, your personal data is deleted within 30 days.
Your rights (Law 25 / PIPEDA)
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you — you can download a full copy at any time from your account settings
- Correct inaccurate information in your settings
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Withdraw your newsletter consent at any time from your settings

Cookies
We use strictly necessary session cookies to keep you signed in and apply your saved preferences. Google Analytics (GA4) sets analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) with no personal data collected. With your consent, Sentry may set a cookie to identify a replay session. We do not use advertising cookies.
